Join Winnebago & the FitRV for camping fun in Monterey!

It’s that time of year again! Time to make your plans to head to the Monterey, California, area for Sea Otter Classic happening April 11-14, 2019.

If you’ve never heard of it, Sea Otter is pretty much one of the greatest celebrations of cycling in the world.

The festival takes place in the beautiful outskirts of Monterey, California, at the famous WeatherTech Raceway, Laguna Seca.

Over 60,000 people from all over the world will be there, and the majority of those are spectators like us, not competitors. There are over 10,000 people who will actually be competing, but you certainly aren’t expected to.

Pro women riders mentoring girls aged 7-16 at last year’s Sea Otter… just awesome.

Sea Otter is especially unique because it brings all genres of biking together … so you can watch road biking, mountain biking, stunt cycling, dual slalom, and you can find friendly rides to join even if you aren’t a competitive cyclist. The event has an incredible expo area where you can test out demo bikes of all sorts, pick up freebies and swag, and generally just feel the love of bicycling all around you.

But now here’s something extra special:

CAMPING at Sea Otter is a huge part of the experience.

And I mean HUGE. Even when the vendor tents shut down for the day and the races have ended, you’ll find everyone still celebrating around campfires up in the beautiful camping sections overlooking the festival grounds. Which is where you’ll find us, and hopefully you’ll be there right with us, too.

James and I would be thrilled if you fellow cycling enthusiasts would join us at Sea Otter. We attend annually as part of a group RV trip organized by Winnebago Outdoor Adventures.

Here’s a crazy thing about Sea Otter: registration for the premium camping spots opens in June of the year before and sells out in days … even at the going rate of $120 a night. Since Winnebago is a major sponsor of Sea Otter, they automatically get a section of the best sites out there. So, while the RV sites have long been sold out, YOU can still score one … by joining our group!

I’ll be honest, this isn’t a cheap event to attend. With camping rates of $120 a night and event passes at $50 per person, you really have to be a cycling nut to understand the value of this incredible festival. But if you are a fellow cycling nut, you’ll also love all the extras that come with joining our group.

Top Benefits of Joining Winnebago at Sea Otter

1. Winnebago VIP status

Down in the fest grounds where food costs about $10,000 per drink and lines can get a little long, you’ll have unlimited access to the VIP area in the Winnebago display. There will be complimentary snacks and drinks and a lovely hangout area just for VIPs during festival open hours. It’s a great place to take a break from stimulation overload and you’ll bump into me there often during the fest!

The behind-the-scenes private VIP area: a welcome respite between festival events!

2. Group exercise, ride, and/or hike

We wouldn’t be the “FitRV” without mentioning this! I’ll be leading morning workouts and a group hike through the beautiful Ford Ord National Monument that runs along the campground border. James will be leading a group road ride, and you mountain bikers are free to get together and hit the sweet rolling trails around Ford Ord.

The top of a very hard climb; lovely scenery and challenging climbs make the road AND mtn biking in the area ideal.

3. Evening festivities and fun

We will have happy hours, appetizers, a Friday night dinner (and optional wine tasting) in Monterey. Plus, music jam sessions, and game night craziness … all included with the price of your registration.

So! Come for the bikes, the camaraderie, the gorgeous setting, to hang with us, or just to bust out the RV! It truly is an incredible experience. We do a ton of events over the course of the year, but this is our favorite. We’d love the chance to get to share it with you.

Hope to see you there!

xoxo, Stef from (and James and Mel the cat, too!)
